What is the 29029 Challenge?

In June of 2019, Aaron Rittenour climbed and descended the equivalent elevation of Mount Everest on a local Mountain in Coeur d’Alene Idaho to garner the attention of local people and to raise money for a local non-profit Organization, Northern Idaho Crisis Center. Held at Canfield Mountain, It took over 16 round trips to complete the full 29,029 feet of elevation and 55 miles of total distance. This was no race, and took Aaron just around 24 hrs to complete the challenge. Many people who heard about the event through local news outlets and social media came to show support for the cause and climbed the mountain themselves a few times. Some went so far as to fly in from out of state and join the event to help support our cause. With this amazing first event completed, we realized that this was a successful event that could continue to grow. Aaron has a passion for helping people who struggle with mental health causing him to start The Simply Overcoming Podcast to help inspire people through stories of trials and success along with creating a movement of people who aren’t afraid to talk about their struggles in life and who have a desire to change their mindset. Through the support of many generous people, the 29029 Challenge is being launched as a yearly event to raise money to help people who struggle with Mental Health.

In 2017, 47,173 Americans died by suicide and there were an estimated 1,400,000 suicide attempts. While this data is the most accurate we have, the numbers are estimated to be much higher. Stigma surrounding suicide leads to underreporting, and data collection methods critical to suicide prevention need to be improved.
